How to join social sport at UQ

UQ Interfaculty Competitions (UQIC) runs social sport at UQ St Lucia, seven nights a week, from $85 a season. You do not need a team and you do not need to be an elite athlete. Here is everything you need to get on the court or field.

You don't need a team

The most common reason people never start is thinking they need to bring a full team. You don't. You can sign up solo and we will place you in a team for the season, or you can sign up with a few mates and we will fill the rest. Either way you get a full season of games, not a one-off.

What sports are on

There is something most nights of the week across St Lucia. Semester 2 competitions include:

  • Soccer and futsal, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.
  • Netball, Tuesday through Friday.
  • Basketball, Monday and Saturday.
  • Volleyball (indoor and beach), Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday.
  • Touch football and touch rugby league, across the week.

You can see every competition, night by night, on the sign-up page, or browse a single sport (like volleyball, netball or soccer and futsal) to compare nights.

What it costs and what's included

Most competitions are $85 for the whole season. That covers your spot in a team, a full season of games, finals, referees, and player insurance while you play. It works out cheaper per game than pay-per-match commercial courts, and a lot cheaper than most external social leagues.

When the season runs

Every competition runs for 10 weeks. The Semester 2 season starts in Week 2, Monday 3 August 2026. Finals run at the end of the season: semi-finals in Week 9 and the grand final in Week 10, with larger sports adding quarter-finals from Week 8. Sign-ups are open now, and popular nights fill up, so it pays to get in early.

How to sign up

  • Head to the sign-up page.
  • Pick your sport and the night that suits you.
  • Register on your own, or start a group and invite mates.
  • Check the season dates against your timetable before you pay, then you are set.

Once you are in, game times are posted online, and you can gear up for the season at the BSc supplement store with member pricing collected on campus.
