No. UQIC is the biggest, cheapest social sport in Brisbane and is open to all, UQ students, students from other unis (QUT, Griffith, ACU, etc.), and members of the wider Brisbane community alike. You don't need to be affiliated with UQ to register.
If you're a QUT student, prefix your student number with "N" when registering. Non-students can simply enter any identifier in the student number field.
Yes. While UQIC is built around interfaculty competition, teams may include students from different faculties unless otherwise specified for a particular competition.
Yes. Players are welcome to participate in multiple sports, provided game times do not clash and separate registrations are paid for each sport.
Mixed competitions are open to players of any gender. Most UQIC sports run as Mixed by default. For some sports (Soccer, Basketball), we run Men's divisions in addition to the Mixed competition. Rugby Union is run as Men's only.
Pick the competition that suits you when you register, game nights and price points are listed on each registration page.
Players must be 18 or over to participate. There is no upper age limit, UQIC is built for the student demographic but anyone who is over 18 and keen for a kick-around is welcome.
Signups & Pricing
Registration starts from $85 AUD per player for the full season, depending on the sport. Pricing is flat per-player, there are no hidden fees, jersey costs, or finals levies. Exact prices are shown on each sport's registration page.
That covers 10 weeks of regular-season competition (Weeks 2–12), finals participation if your team qualifies, a free customised jersey, and event entry (see below).
Every registration includes:
- A free custom jersey in your chosen size, with your nominated number and nickname
- 10 rounds of regular-season competition (Weeks 2–12) plus finals if you qualify
- A free Fixture Mixer ticket, our social kickoff event at the start of the season
- A discounted MEGA Launch Party ticket for the Semester 2 launch
- Eligibility for end-of-season awards and the Interfaculty Ball (Oct/Nov)
Semester 2, 2026 kicks off in Week 2, Monday 3rd August. A full season is 10 rounds of competition running through Weeks 2–12 of the academic semester. Finals begin in Round 7 or 8 depending on competition size.
UQIC also runs a Semester 1 competition each year using the same format.
Registrations stay open until each sport reaches capacity, or until the night before the season starts, whichever comes first. Popular sports fill fast, particularly Touch Football, Netball and Basketball, so sign up early to avoid missing out.
The live signups page shows current status (open, closing soon, or sold out) for every competition.
Refunds are assessed on a case-by-case basis. Before the season starts, we can usually offer a full refund less any processing fees, provided your spot can be reallocated. Once the season has begun, refunds are generally not available, as your jersey has been ordered and your team is depending on you.
For medical or extenuating circumstances, email secretary@uqic.com.au with your situation and we'll do our best to help.
Yes, within the first 48 hours of registering. After that, jerseys may have entered production and changes can't be guaranteed. Email secretary@uqic.com.au with your order details and the change you'd like.
Heads up: jersey numbers are 3 digits max, nicknames are 12 characters max. Keep it clean, anything offensive will be sent back for a rewrite.
Teams & Subs
UQIC is built around individual sign-ups. You don't need a team, just register yourself, and we'll place you with others.
If you have mates or a faculty crew you want to play with, everyone must enter the exact same team name in the Team Preference field at signup. That's how we group you together. If you leave it blank or don't match team names, we'll randomly allocate you to a team.
Team allocation works in two ways:
- Preference-matched: Players who entered the same team name in the Team Preference field are placed together, up to the maximum squad size for that sport.
- Random allocation: Solo players who didn't specify a team name (or whose preferred team is full) are randomly grouped to form complete squads.
If you ticked "Flexible with Team" during signup, we may move you to balance numbers across teams. This helps keep the comp fair and ensures everyone gets a game.
No. Non registered players are not permitted to participate in any UQIC competition under any circumstances.
Yes. Substitute players are permitted subject to the following conditions:
- Substitute players must be fully registered UQIC participants.
- Substitute players must be registered in another team competing in the same sport and on the same night.
- All substitute players must receive approval from UQIC via official social media channels prior to the commencement of the first game of the night.
Substitutions that do not meet these requirements are not permitted.
If your team is going to be short, first try to organise a registered sub from another team in the same competition (see above). Get it approved via our official socials before the night kicks off.
If you can't find a sub and need to forfeit, message the UQIC comp page or your sport's Facebook group as early as possible. Repeated last-minute forfeits affect the rest of the comp and may result in points deductions.
Generally no, once teams are finalised in Round 1, they're locked for the season for fairness and continuity. Exceptions may be considered in unusual circumstances (e.g. a team folding, or numbers needing to be rebalanced).
Email secretary@uqic.com.au if you have a situation that might warrant a switch.
Game Day
All competitions are held on University of Queensland St Lucia campus sporting facilities, unless otherwise specified.
Wet weather procedures vary by sport. Updates regarding cancellations or changes will be communicated via the UQIC sport specific Facebook groups.
Yes. All competitions include a finals series following the regular season. Finals formats vary by sport and division but either start in round 7 or 8 depending on competition size.
UQIC provides all sport-specific equipment (balls, bibs, nets, cones, scoreboards). You're expected to bring:
- Your UQIC jersey (handed out before Round 1)
- Suitable footwear for the surface, indoor courts, grass fields, sand courts, etc.
- A water bottle
- Shin guards or mouthguards where relevant (Soccer, Rugby Union, TRL)
If you need specifics for your sport, check the rules page or the relevant sport Facebook group.
UQIC has insurance arrangements covering registered players during sanctioned games. If you're injured during play:
- Notify the referee, official, or UQIC committee member on the night.
- Seek medical attention as needed.
- Submit an insurance claim to secretary@uqic.com.au within a reasonable timeframe.
Important: Coverage applies to registered players only, during official UQIC games. Practice sessions and unofficial games are not covered.
Fixtures are published before Round 1 via your sport-specific Facebook group. Each week's draw, scores, ladder and finals bracket are posted in the same place. Make sure you join the group as soon as you've registered, it's the primary communication channel for everything game-day.
Contact & Support
If you have not heard back from us, please first check that your message or email was sent to the correct UQIC contact address or official social media account. If it was, we kindly ask that you follow up on the same platform where the original message was sent.
Contacting UQIC about the same issue across multiple platforms can create unnecessary duplication and places additional burden on our staff and volunteers, which may delay response times. We appreciate your cooperation and patience while our team works through enquiries.
UQIC takes player welfare seriously. To report a concern about misconduct, unsafe play, harassment, or any other issue:
- Email secretary@uqic.com.au with as much detail as possible, what happened, when, where, and who was involved.
- Include any supporting evidence (photos, screenshots, witness names).
- The committee will review and respond within a reasonable timeframe.
All complaints are handled confidentially. Serious matters may be escalated to UQ Sport or the relevant authorities.
Talk to the team.
We're here for it.
